Finally Ready for Internal Family Systems Therapy? Here’s How to Connect with an IFS Therapist

Ready to get started with Internal Family Systems therapy

Like many individuals exploring paths to deeper understanding and healing, my journey into Internal Family Systems (IFS) was sparked by a profound recognition of the mind's intricate nature. I was drawn to IFS because it offers a compassionate and non-pathologizing approach.. If you've been searching for an evidence-based IFS therapist and feel ready to embark on this transformative IFS journey, you've come to the right place. This post will guide you on how to take the next step and potentially begin IFS therapy sessions. Remember, I'm here to help.

TL;DR

If you are ready to start IFS, let's connect.

Understanding Your Interest in IFS Therapy

Perhaps you've encountered the core concepts of internal family systems therapy. Developed by Richard Schwartz in the 1980s, IFS recognizes that the psyche is comprised of multiple "parts", each with its own unique role and perspective. This model emphasizes that these parts are not inherently "good" or "bad," but rather develop (sometimes extreme) roles and strategies to navigate life experiences. Key to IFS is the concept of the core Self, which is a core of wisdom, compassion, and clarity that resides within everyone. IFS therapy aims to help you access your Self and foster a deeper understanding and connection with your inner "internal system". It’s a powerful approach to psychotherapy that views this multiplicity as normal.

What Happens in an IFS Therapy Session?

If you deal with post-traumatic stress disorder, e.g. because of childhood trauma, you may not look forward to traditional talk therapy. The IFS model does not focus on "reliving" the trauma. To the contrary, your IFS therapist will help you to understand how the different parts in your inner system try to protect you from deep pain, even though their strategies may be ineffective or counterproductive. Your parts are like members of a family. Some parts may be in exile because of traumatic life events. A skilled IFS therapist will help you see which healthy parts can help to heal the parts that are traumatized.

Who Can Profit from IFS Online Treatment

Therapists have been using internal family systems therapy for helping individuals with several mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Trauma survivors and PTSD

  • Couple therapy

  • Dissociation, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

  • Borderline personality disorder (which many now consider a form of complex PTSD)

  • Substance use

  • Sex, porn, relationship addiction

But as IFS is a non-pathologizing model of psychotherapy that focuses on healing, it can also be used for:

  • Increased self-awareness

  • Working on self-compassion

  • Business coaching, executive coaching

  • Self development in general

Why Consider Working with Me as Your IFS Therapist?
