For all of the areas and development activities above, schedule a time, at least once a week, with your child to monitor and discuss progress against his/her plans and goals. Make sure to ask and listen reflectively to his/her thoughts and feelings of the experience. If any task or goal seems to be too difficult, break it up into smaller, more easily achievable targets. It is possible that you will quickly start to see results, but it may also take some time for you and your child to settle into the new routine. Be patient and persistent.
What comes next?
In session 7, we move on to the next set of executive functioning skills – regulation of behavior and emotions – where we propose a similar improvement process but with activities specifically targeted at these skills.
