So, why is mindfulness so important in a caring relationship? Previously, we have emphasized the importance of relaxation on the ability to care for others. Mindfulness is an attitude that does not focus on perceived wrongs of the past or lofty expectations of the future. It accepts without judgment. It observes without bias and prejudice. These are vital aspects of caring for someone else and guiding them toward positive change. Mindfulness reflects acceptance and deflects resistance. The focus is maintained on what is meaningful in the current moment to affect change at a pace that is natural.
True caring is a relationship of trust, a partnership where one person reveals their pain, insecurity, and vulnerability to another. Rather than an imbalance of power, helping someone else requires giving of oneself too. A quiet and accepting state of mind is needed equally in the caregiver and receiver. Mindfulness, as a gentle attitude of awareness and acceptance, contains all the features helpful to build a caring and honest connection with someone else.
