“When we ‘over-think’ it’s as though we build thought upon thought upon thought very quickly. We end up with something flimsy (the smallest distractions can make thoughts vanish) which, however, can take us away from reality and lead us to distressing feelings. Saying something like ‘thought upon thought upon thought’ when you catch yourself doing this can stop the chain of over-thinking.”
