A useful method of mindfully relating to our negative emotions is to become aware of them as a physical sensation … When we experience our emotions on the physical level, rather than thinking about what’s making us so unhappy, it is easier to stay present. It’s the difference between noticing tightness in my chest and thinking I can’t believe she said that to me; who does should think she is? And so on and so on.
