A Note on the Therapeutic Relationship

The therapist-client relationship is paramount in EMDR therapy. I am committed to providing a safe, accepting, and compassionate environment where you can explore your experiences and heal.

The Advantages of Online Therapy

Online therapy provides a convenient and accessible way to receive mental health support from the comfort of your own home. It eliminates barriers such as transportation, scheduling conflicts, and geographical limitations.

Online therapy offers new visions for the future.

The rapid evolution of communication technologies is constantly creating new possibilities for therapeutic interventions. By embracing these advancements, therapy can become more accessible, efficient, and tailored to the individual needs of clients. As a therapist, I see online platforms as a way to break free from traditional constraints and explore innovative approaches that can enhance the therapeutic process, offering clients new hope and possibilities for growth. Continuing to adapt and integrate these technologies allows me to provide the best possible care in an ever-changing world.

Skills to Look for in a Good Therapist

We have created a list of 50 skills to look for in a good therapist. Here is one:

Possessing an attitude of respect and acceptance

Mental health professionals should demonstrate an unconditional positive regard for clients, accepting you as you are without judgment. I aim to have an approach to therapy that values your inherent worth and potential, fostering a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In my experience, respect and acceptance lay the foundation for a strong therapeutic alliance. This leads to therapy sessions that facilitate trust and collaboration in the counseling process.

Treatment Plan

My priority is to create a safe, compassionate, and understanding therapeutic relationship with each of my clients. I focus on creating a safe space early in the process. A safe space is essential especially for clients with dissociative disorders and other complex traumas. This powerful tool is essential for effective healing. Many clients have shared that they feel genuinely heard and supported in our sessions.

Private Practice

As a private pay practice, I can offer greater privacy and flexibility in treatment, tailoring our sessions to your unique needs without the constraints of insurance companies.

I also offer a limited number of sliding scale slots to ensure therapy is accessible.

Virtual sessions

I offer online EMDR and Internal Family Systems services for clients in New York. Since I do only virtual sessions, my therapy sessions are location independent and may be an easier fit in your busy schedule.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing just for Traumatic Memories?

No, while EMDR has been shown to be just as effective as traditional talk therapy for dealing with traumatic memories, the therapy method has been used for a diverse group of conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, relationship issues and couples therapy, dealing with distressing events in daily life and the after-effects of trauma and other life experiences.

A healthy relationship is almost impossible without dealing with the difficult emotions from past painful experiences. This is where the therapeutic techniques of Internal Family Systems and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy together form an effective tool creating life-changing results.

Other treatment modalities

EMDR can be part of a comprehensive treatment plan combined with e.g. cognitive-behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, somatic psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy and especially Internal Family Systems.

Why Work With Me?

I offer specialized expertise, having completed extensive training in EMDR therapy. Becoming an effective trauma therapist requires specialized training to learn how to apply the powerful eye movement therapy in an integrative approach.

I am a psychiatrist offering Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy in online sessions.

My 20 years experience integrating Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing with traditional therapies in psychiatry allows me to provide a comprehensive healing process for clients with childhood trauma including survivors from distressing experiences, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and those dealing with other disturbing emotions. In the therapy plan I suggest an evidence-based approach that stimulates the natural healing process.

Internal Family Systems and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy

For me, the specialized approach to psychotherapy of combining Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and Richard Schwartz' Internal Family Systems was more than an eye opener. In my experience, this evidence-based and non-judgmental approach is at least as effective as psychodynamic psychotherapy and other Insight-oriented therapies not only in dealing with traumatic events but also with the symptoms that we used to attribute to personality disorders.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and Personality Disorders

I have realized that the negative beliefs and emotional charge we used to call borderline personality disorder, in fact usually is complex PTSD, based on the long lasting effects of early traumatic events, childhood trauma and sometimes ongoing abuse.

Understanding EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help you reprocess disturbing memories and reduce their emotional impact. While EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, therapy sessions nowadays often use a wide range of other bilateral stimulation techniques that have been shown to be as effective as lateral eye movements. My favorite is "tapping" oneself on the shoulders also knows as the butterfly hug.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an effective treatment to deal with distressing memories and other symptoms of trauma. It is different from traditional talk therapy and other forms of therapy. It is an evidence-based treatment that works by stimulating the brain's natural healing processes through Adaptive Information Processing (AIP). EMDR therapy typically involves eight distinct phases , ensuring a structured and comprehensive approach to healing.

Like many of you searching for an EMDR therapist in New York, I was drawn to EMDR because I witnessed its transformative power in helping individuals heal from trauma and anxiety. My journey as a psychiatrist into EMDR has been driven by a deep commitment to providing effective, evidence-based care that empowers my clients with traumatic experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder to regain control of their lives.
