Anxiety Disorder Explained – Types of Anxiety Disorders

There are millions of people who are living every day with anxiety disorder. In some cases, they are experiencing more than one type of anxiety disorder and at the same time may be experiencing depression. If you’re experiencing anxiety it’s important that you know what type you are experiencing and it is important that you get some support to assist you in dealing with the anxiety disorder.

The most common anxiety disorders are these :

Generalized anxiety disorder–GAD–most days you feel anxious and worry about many different things. This takes place for six months or more.

Social Phobias–There is an intense fear of social situations and of being humiliated or being embarrassed when out in public. People may not go out into public and may avoid situations such as eating out in order to avoid the embarrassment or humiliation that they may have.

Panic Disorder is when people have intense, overwhelming and often uncontrollable feelings of anxiety and they are accompanied by physical symptoms.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is ongoing and unwanted intrusive thoughts and fears that cause anxiety. They may understand the thoughts are silly and even though they know it, they try to relieve the anxiety by carrying out specific behaviors.

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is anxiety that is usually experienced after someone has experienced a traumatic event such as war, injury, attack or disaster that causes them to have a problem relaxing and to relive the event.
